  • In Love

May 29, 2008 tagged as ducklings, ducks

I have an irrational attachment to these little ducklings. Sure, by now they’re big honking ducks, but I can live with the cup image forever.

  • From Above

May 29, 2008 tagged as aerial photos, ants, NY Times

Mesmerizing aerial shots of NY – from Hudson River Park to Columbia. We’re all just very colorful ants.

  • Excerpt from an Italian Dictionary

    May 29, 2008

coso ['koso] SM (fam: oggetto) thing, thingummy; (:aggeggio) contraption; (:persona) what’s his name, thingummy

At first, I thought they may have been searching for thingamajig. Now, I see that thingum was the original thingamajig. Still, they chose the 1796 over the 1828 word.

  • An Uncomfortable Level of Certainty

    May 28, 2008

What I Learned Today informs us that

A recent Uniform California Earthquake Rupture Forecast report predicts a 99.7 percent chance that a magnitude 6.7 quake or larger will strike somewhere in California in the next 30 years.

Not to trivialize the plight of an entire state, but this is the kind of reminder that makes me happy not to live in the warm embrace of sunny-and-70s-southern-california anymore.  The tremors, fires, and smog were enough for me.
