How To: Do the High-End Army Cut
Back in 2002, I offered to cut [a very nervous about this] Eric’s hair. He knew I’d styled and adjusted cuts for film, but could I cut his hair start to finish? At the very least, I knew I could do it better than the shoddy barber he’d been seeing for $25 a pop.
And that first cut turned out to be a beaut, even without my perfect Tweezermans. But ever since then, he won’t try another barber.
“What if I lose function in my right hand?”
“I’m sure you could figure out how to cut with your left.”
We did a short summer cut last night, and he went from pretty, to in-the-Army-now.
Pretty was actually too shaggy, but I like his hair long.
Here, the back’s almost done; Eric’s working a front mini-hawk.
And in a week, the Army look will just be crisp and clean (when all the fresh-cut ends calm down).
If you ever become someone’s personal stylist, just make sure you use shears. A buzz cut doesn’t grow out well, so you’ll have hair all over your living room every two weeks.
