  • I went to Rwanda and all I got was this lousy agaseke.

May 27, 2009 tagged as rwanda

I kid.  Rwanda is gorgeous – both the land of a thousand hills and the people of a thousand smiles.  And while I did bring back a few traditional Rwandan baskets (agaseke), it’s hard to fully communicate what I brought back in terms of love.  Having never seen Africa before, I never physically understood – we are really all the same.

This experience was broadening, emotional, and maybe intellectually troubling.  Working with really bright students in the middle of Africa and then seeing the world around them – outside the fence – was something that changed a little piece of me.  And based on the way I feel right now, I hope that change is forever.
