No Country for Old Ice Cream
Van Leeuwen. The name always makes me think of Llewelyn, which isn’t really what I want to associate with a luscious summertime treat. But their ice cream is amazing.
I tried it for the first time last night at University and 11th, and chose the mint chip.
Ordinarily, I’d just rave about it, but I have to gripe. The sign says a small cup is $3.50, but they’re charging $3.75. I’m not getting into “is it worth it?” but I don’t like any operation with sloppy policies.
Beyond that, I’m always a little put off by companies that won’t let the eco thing drop. Just be eco-friendly. Stop telling me about it. From their website,
Our cups and napkins are Bagasse, a fiber made from sugar cane husk. Our drink cups, spoons, and straws are made from corn husk. These products aren’t only better for the environment, they are also better for you, as they don’t leach dangerous petrochemicals.
Just so you know, those corn husk spoons TASTE like corn husks. Reminiscent of sipping water through the pasta-straws at Jimmy Max that “cook” in the water, leaving you with glutenous goo.
Van Leeuwen, anything that impedes your user experience needs to be seriously considered.
Or, sorry, is it that we’re supposed to get off on our grainy spoons because we’re doing something good for the environment while savoring our $0.94/ ounce ice cream?
In an effort to help preserve one of the world’s most endangered species, the Mountain Gorilla, [Van Leeuwen] pledge[s] one percent of [their] profits to Wildlife Direct, a grassroots organization based in the Congo with a mission to actively protect critically endangered species.
Trying this thing from all angles, eh?

Miss Labeled
Last night, I went out walking with Eric to ease my way out of a day full of headache. We found some pretty things, and some interesting things, and some average things, and then this thing.
No statement about her, no message for her. Just Britney Spears. So we thought…
made just as much sense.
